🍳 What are some easy recipes for children?
There are plenty of easy and fun recipes perfect for children! Start with no-bake treats, simple biscuit recipes, or colourful fruit salads.
Engaging children in these recipes helps them learn so much all while having fun. Remember, kitchen safety is key, so always supervise them!
👩🍳 How can I encourage my children to cook?
There’s no need to push children into the kitchen — often the best approach is to simply start cooking yourself and let their curiosity do the rest! I find my own children wander over when they see something interesting happening.
A lovely way to begin is by giving them ownership of a small part of the recipe — something like tearing herbs or sprinkling toppings. It doesn’t have to be at the worktop either; the kitchen table works just as well.
Most of all, make it fun! Let them choose recipes that catch their eye and get stuck in alongside you. A little praise goes such a long way — the more positive the experience, the more they’ll want to come back for more.
🔪 What kitchen tools are safe for children?
Start with simple tools like measuring cups, kitchen scales, rotary cutters and silicone spatulas. They can also use dinner knives or safe plastic knives for cutting soft fruits or veggies. Make sure they learn how to handle all kitchen tools responsibly.
🥦 How do I teach kids about nutrition?
Involve them in choosing and preparing meals. Talk about the different food groups, colours on their plates, and how certain foods help their bodies. Making it a daily conversation can spark their interest in nutrition.
Remember you don’t need to have all the answers. Part of the fun I find is that I do not know the answer and we have to go and find out together.
🧹 What’s the best way to clean up after cooking?
Cleaning can be part of the fun! Teach children if possible to clean as they go. Either providing them with specific tasks assigned after cooking. Or try setting a 10 minute timer to see how much you can clear away in that time.
Why not put some kitchen tidy music on to make it fun? You could even make your own 10 minute kitchen tidy playlist — the kids will love racing to get everything cleared before the music stops!
